Create Nest Instance
INFO
To learn when to add Nest Instances, see High Availability.
To add a host as Nest instance, create it in Foundry, then boot the host from an Installer Image.
Prerequisites
- A host that meets the System Requirements
Create the Nest Instance
- Navigate to Admin settings → Nest → tab Instances → Create Nest Instance
- Configure the properties:
| Property | Description | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Host name of the Nest Instance | Yes |
| Zone | Zone of the Nest Instance. Cannot be changed later | Yes |
| Network Profile | Network setup of the host. Its primary host network must be an IPAM Subnet (since Nest instances require static IPs) | Yes |
| Static IP in pool ... | Select a static IP for the Nest instance | Yes |
| BGP Settings (Local ASN, Peer IP, ...) | Only on a Nest in BGP mode. Same settings as in the Nest installation | Yes, if mode == BGP, except Peer Password |

- Click Create
Create an Installer Image
- On the Nest Instance, open tab Installer Images → Create Installer Image
- Configure the properties:
| Property | Description | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Name | A unique name for this image of the Nest Instance | Yes |
| Expires at | Date after which the image can no longer be used for installation. Defaults to one week | No |
- Click Create
Foundry builds the image. Once it is Ready, download the .iso for the host's architecture.
Boot the Host
Boot the host from the ISO, see the options to boot servers from an .iso. The installer wipes the boot disk, installs the Nest Instance and joins it to the Nest without further input. The install logs show up on the Installer Image's Logs tab.
Once the instance has joined, its status is Ready.
If it shows Boot failed or does not join, see Joining and Install Logs of an Added Instance.
Next Steps
- If you were coming from a single-instance Nest, enable high availability on the Foundry.
- If the Foundry is already highly available and you joined another Nest instance, rebalance it.
