Create Regions & Zones
INFO
To learn about Regions and Zones, see Regions & Zones.
Create a Region first, then its Zones, then put Machines in them.
Create a Region
- Navigate to Machines → tab Regions & Zones → Create Region
- Configure the properties:
| Property | Description | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Name | A group of Zones close to each other, such as the data centers of one city, e.g. zurich. Unique within the Organization and cannot be changed later | Yes |
- Click Create
The Region opens on its Zones tab.
Create a Zone
- Navigate to Machines → tab Regions & Zones → select the Region → tab Zones → Create Zone
- Configure the properties:
| Property | Description | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Name | A failure domain, such as a data center, a room or a rack row, e.g. zrh-dc1. Unique within the Organization and cannot be changed later | Yes |
- Click Create
Put a Machine in a Zone
- Navigate to Machines → select the Machine → Actions → Edit Machine. For a Machine that does not exist yet, pre-register it and fill in the same field.
- Under Kubernetes, select the Zone. No Zone takes the Machine out of its Zone.
- Click Preview, then Roll out
The Machine's node gets the topology.kubernetes.io/region and topology.kubernetes.io/zone labels.
